  • Arianna Freeman was confirmed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit on September 29, 2022. 
  • Previously, she was the Managing Attorney of the Non-Capital Habeas Unit in the Federal Community Defender office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, where she has served since 2009. In 2014, Freeman became the first attorney in the office’s Non-Capital Habeas Unit.
  • Upon confirmation, Freeman became the first Black woman and first woman of color to serve on the Third Circuit. Freeman received her B.A. from Swarthmore College in 2001 and her J.D. from Yale Law School in 2007. She clerked for Judges James Giles and Darnell Jones of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
