Montecalvo serves as Rhode Island’s top Public Defender, a role that
she has been in since 2020. Prior to that, she served in multiple
roles in the state Public Defender’s office, including as a trial
attorney from 2004 to 2010, an appellate attorney from 2010 to 2014,
and then Chief of the Appellate Division of the statewide office from
2014 to 2020.
Montecalvo served as trial lawyer in the Tax Division for the
Department of Justice from 2002-2004.
Montecalvo earned a B.A. degree from Swarthmore College in 1996 before
graduating from Boston College Law School in 2000.
