Judge Sarah Merriam was confirmed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit on September 15, 2022.
Previously, she served on the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut from October 6th, 2021. Before that, she served as a Magistrate Judge for the District of Connecticut from 2015 to 2021.
From 2007 to 2015, Merriam served as an Assistant Federal Defender in the District of Connecticut.
Upon confirmation, Judge Merriam became the first former public defender to serve in the District of Connecticut since 1964.
Judge Merriam earned her B.A. from Georgetown University in 1993, her J.D. from Yale Law School in 2000, and her LL.M. from Duke University in 2018.
