- Judge Sarah Merriam was confirmed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit on September 15, 2022.
- Previously, she served on the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut from October 6th, 2021. Before that, she served as a Magistrate Judge for the District of Connecticut from 2015 to 2021.
- From 2007 to 2015, Merriam served as an Assistant Federal Defender in the District of Connecticut.
- Upon confirmation, Judge Merriam became the first former public defender to serve in the District of Connecticut since 1964.
- Judge Merriam earned her B.A. from Georgetown University in 1993, her J.D. from Yale Law School in 2000, and her LL.M. from Duke University in 2018.
