  • Tiffany Cartwright was confirmed to the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington on July 12, 2023.
  •  Previously, she was a civil rights attorney and a partner at MacDonald Hoague & Bayless, where she worked from 2014 to 2023.
  • Cartwright’s civil rights cases include Thomas v. Cannon, a police shooting case that resulted in a $15 million plaintiff’s jury verdict, Dunlap v. King County, in which a teenager was shot in the back by King County Sheriff’s deputies, and West v. City of Montesano, in which a man was shot in his home while experiencing a mental health crisis.
  • She served as pro bono Washington state counsel in Aguilar v. Yakima County, the first case litigated under the Washington Voting Rights Act.  
  • Cartwright co-authored an amicus brief cited by the Supreme Court in Hall v. Florida, which held that Florida’s definition of intellectual disability in death penalty cases violated the Eighth Amendment.
  • Cartwright received her J.D. from Stanford Law School in 2010 and clerked for Judge Betty Fletcher of the Ninth Circuit and Justice Dana Fabe of the Alaska Supreme Court.
