- From 1986 to 1991, Thompson was an Assistant Public Defender in the Alameda County Public Defender’s Office.
- In 2011, President Obama appointed Judge Thompson to serve on the Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, where she provided advice and analysis on federal juvenile delinquency prevention programs and crime prevention activities.
- Judge Thompson received her A.B. in Legal Studies from U.C. Berkeley in 1983 and her J.D. from U.C. Berkeley School of Law in 1986.
