Julie Rikelman was confirmed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit on June 20, 2023

Previously, she was the Litigation Director at the Center for Reproductive Rights, where worked since 2011. In 2021, she argued on behalf of Jackson Women’s Health Organization in Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization. In 2020, she successfully argued on behalf of the abortion clinic in June Medical Services v. Russo.

Rikelman previously served as the Vice President of Litigation for NBC Universal. Before that, she worked as a senior associate at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP.

From 1999 to 2001, Rikelman was a Blackmun Fellow at the Center for Reproductive Rights.

Rikelman clerked for Judge Morton Greenberg of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and Judge Dana Fabe of the Alaska Supreme Court.
