- Charlotte Sweeney was confirmed to the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado on May 25, 2022.
- She is a Colorado native and was a plaintiff’s lawyer who specializes in employment law.
- Sweeney represented six women professors at the University of Denver who alleged that they were not being paid equally to their male counterparts. In 2018, the university agreed to a $2.66 million settlement and to pay increases for the plaintiffs.
- Sweeney represented a former Boulder Parks and Recreation employee who alleged discrimination over the fact that she was lesbian. In 2016, the city of Boulder agreed to a $64,000 settlement.
- Sweeney has been a longtime advocate for equal pay. She helped draft Colorado’s 2019 Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, which imposed new standards to narrow the pay gap for women in Colorado. She has testified numerous times before the Colorado legislature in favor of equal pay for women.
- Sweeney is the former President of the Colorado Plaintiff Employment Lawyers Association, former Co-Chair of the Colorado Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Law Section, and former President of the Faculty of Federal Advocates. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Matthew Shepard Foundation, which seeks to promote human rights and equality for all people.

- Sweeney received her B.S. from California Lutheran University and her J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law.
