Jamel Semper was confirmed to the U.S District Court for the District of New Jersey on November 29, 2023. He was previously an Assistant United States Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey, a role he had since 2018. He also serves as Deputy Chief of that Office’s Criminal Division. From 2013 to 2018 Semper served as an assistant prosecutor in the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. Prior to that, from 2008 to 2013, he worked as an assistant prosecutor in the Union County Prosecutor’s Office. Semper clerked for Judge Harold Fullilove on New Jersey’s Essex County Superior Court between 2007 and 2008. He received his J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law in 2007 and his B.A. from Hampton University in 2003.
